Contextual narrative
UCEN Manchester is firmly committed to providing college-based higher education to all who seek to improve their skills and knowledge, regardless of background or socio-economic status. We are proud of our inclusive tariffs and open approach to applications and enrolment.
Our aspiration is for all students to achieve to the best of their ability and attain the highest possible classification in their particular award. It should be noted that a significant proportion of our students undertake programmes such as Foundation Degrees and Higher National Diplomas, and so first degree classifications such as 1st or 2:1 only reflect a proportion of our student outcomes.
While we are proud of the achievements of all our students, we recognise that attainment gaps do exist and the most significant we need to address is around ethnicity. We are working hard to address this and through our Access and Participation Plan have put in place a range of measures and initiatives to close this gap. We are very pleased to note that that these measures are having a positive impact with the attainment gap between White and Ethnic Minorities reduced from 25% to 8% and between EIMD 1&2 and 3-5 reduced from 13% to 4%.
