If you are already working as a teaching assistant and would like to carry out higher-level responsibilities in primary, secondary, SEN or sixth form environments, this dedicated course will help you achieve the nationally recognised status of HLTA.

Looking at factors that impact learning and planning to meet these different needs, you’ll develop the professional attributes of an HLTA, focusing on communication skills with parents and adults, monitoring and assessment, record keeping, behaviour management and the direction of other adults to support learning.

You’ll be using examples of work that you are already involved in to showcase your current capabilities, as well as requesting reports from senior members of your team, building up a portfolio of relevant evidence that demonstrates your skills. You’ll show your expertise in an individual area, and provide examples of how you support pupils and teachers inside and outside the classroom, taking part in educational visits, professional meetings and extra-curricular activities.

You’ll need to be employed in a school or educational environment on a full or part-time basis, and already hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant Qualification.

You should also have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualification, and a supporting statement from your headteacher.

You will be assessed for this qualification through the portfolio of evidence you have built up. An assessor will also visit your school for a half-day to mark this, allowing you to explain in more detail, and verifying this work with your headteacher.

The cost of this course is £350.00. If you have any further queries, please contact us on 03333 222 444 or enquiries@tmc.ac.uk.
