From College to Catwalk

Find out how Mohammed Hussain, a former Syrian refugee, has gone from College to catwalk

Mohammed Hussain, a former Syrian refugee, has used his studies as a platform to transform his life and gained a place on the BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration course at the renowned London College of Fashion.  

Mohammed, also known as Boka, decided to study at The Manchester College because of its excellent location and facilities. Boka said: “The Manchester College was a great place to study, the course suited my interests and allowed me to explore and experiment in different mediums.”

During the Foundation Studies in Art and Design L3 Diploma, Boka had the opportunity to find his own individual style and was encouraged by his supportive tutors, Fiona Donald and Lou Olivia. This gave Boka the confidence required to believe in his own work. When reflecting on his experience, Boka said: “I made incredible friends and the studio atmosphere was buzzing with creative energy.”

Fiona Donald, our Visual Arts Tutor, remembers Boka fondly: “We are so proud of his achievements and the incredible journey he has been on with us. He was a catalyst in the studio and an absolute pleasure to teach.”

Boka aspires to be an independent fashion designer with his own permanent studio. His long term goal is to build an art school in his homeland of Syria, to provide others with the chance to explore their talent in the same way he has.

I want to share my creative vision with the world and The Manchester College was the beginning of this journey.
