Computing students just a click away from a career
Computing students at UCEN Manchester are stepping straight into industry careers thanks to the qualifications they’ve gained with the organisation.
UCEN Manchester tutor Paul Ashby, a Cisco Advanced Level Instructor, revealed that 95 per cent of his computing students over the past three years have moved on to employment in the networking and computing industry.
The news comes after the first ever CompTIA UK Tech Town Index named Manchester as the top UK location for IT professionals to live and work.
The study into IT careers, which took into account key issues such as career progression, gave Manchester the top spot due to its wide range of opportunities for professional growth, large selection of job opportunities, and the low cost of living.
Paul, who is ranked in the top 25 per cent of Cisco instructors across the globe in terms of student feedback and performance, said: “Studying at UCEN Manchester means that you are giving yourself the best opportunity to get a job when you graduate. One of my students qualified in May and he was employed by June. Another is now installing Cisco systems into luxury yachts in the South of France.
At UCEN Manchester, we’re training our students for the workplace. They get the latest updates, advice from industry leaders, and are exposed to industry standards at the forefront of networking and everything connected to the internet.
“Getting a job also depends on the student themselves; with 12,000 jobs available in networking and security, the opportunities are there if you look for them.”
UCEN Manchester has been part of the prestigious Cisco Networking Academy for more than two decades, helping students to earn valuable computing qualifications.
In addition, UCEN Manchester has operated as a Cisco Support Centre and Instructor Training Centre for the past 10 years, supporting other instructors with their academy support and training.
Paul added: “Cisco is a globally renowned leader in computing and networking, and this relationship has ensured our computing courses are at the forefront of education.”
