The launch of UCEN Manchester

UCEN Manchester, a new higher education organisation offering degree-level courses for students, launched on Wednesday 24 January 2018.

As part of LTE group, the UK’s first integrated education and skills group of its kind, UCEN Manchester delivers world-class technical and professional higher level skills to meet the priorities of the Greater Manchester region and beyond.

More than 90 courses are delivered at our eight campuses, all of which are strategically located across Greater Manchester.

Dean of Higher Education and Vice Principal Michael Walsh said: “We’re incredibly excited to introduce UCEN Manchester to the marketplace. We believe there’s a need for something different in our city and we’re confident that our vision, ambition and ability will offer this.

“Small class sizes will foster superb personal learning environments for students of all ages and our innovative partnerships will give them useful access to professionals and industry environments.

Our focus is on equipping our students with the skills and qualifications they need to forge a successful career, not just to get their first job.

Higher education has previously been delivered by The Manchester College, also part of LTE group.

More than 90% of our higher education students go on to work or further study within six months of leaving* and we have some great case studies of our graduates here.

The number of jobs in Greater Manchester is predicted to increase by 43,000 in the next 10 years** and many of these are likely to require higher level skills. Therefore, this is an important time for UCEN Manchester to establish itself in the marketplace as a leading provider of degree-level courses that can equip students with the skills and qualifications they need to meet this demand.

Michael continued: “Our curriculum is carefully aligned to reflect the economic needs of the region, and all of our teaching staff are encouraged to maintain strong links to their industries. This has been a contributing factor to the high esteem in which some of our subject areas such as The Arden School of Theatre and The Manchester Film School are already held.

“It’s our ambition to develop Centres of Excellence that immerse our students in world-class technical environments and facilities that complement our TEF Silver-accredited teaching.”
