Singers can apply to the new BA (Hons) Vocal Studies and Performance which launches in September at UCEN Manchester.

Performers wanting to fulfil their potential as professional singers can sign up to a new degree course at The Arden, part of UCEN Manchester.

Launching this September (2019), the BA (Hons) Vocal Studies and Performance qualification allows students to hone their vocal skills and learn a range of industry standard techniques. Course units include Acting Through Song, Solo and Ensemble Singing, The Art of Cabaret, and Studio Production.

Based at Nicholls campus, the degree is studied over three years full time or six years part-time, and is validated by Sheffield Hallam University. Applicants need to have at least 96 UCAS points or the equivalent and will need to take part in an audition, but applicants with previous learning or relevant industry or life experience will also be considered.

Following graduation, students can progress to jobs in the music industry, such as session singers, cruise ship performers, or independent practitioners. They can also continue their study with a specialist Masters degree, including the Performance Practice MA at The Arden, which starts in September 2020.

Andrew Stephenson, Department Team Leader and course leader, said:

This new degree course will give students all the exceptional skills they need to become a professional vocalist.

"Focusing on a unique area of study within The Arden's offer (Musical Theatre, Acting, Dancing, and Theatre and Performance), students will learn how to develop crucial techniques to best showcase their talent to the industry.

"This is an exciting opportunity for students to be part of The Arden's history and join the first ever cohort on this course."
