UCEN Manchester's first Open Day is a shining success

The sun shone brightly during the first ever UCEN Manchester Open Day on Saturday (30 June) as prospective students toured Manchester’s newest higher education provider.

Over 150 people signed up to the inaugural event, held at the Openshaw Campus, which saw visitors explore the wide range of degree level courses and speak to expert tutors covering a range of fascinating subject areas.

Departments including Business and Management, Health and Care Professions, Criminology and Social Justice, and Sport and Exercise Science, displayed course information and student work, and provided interactive activities to try.

In the Lecture Hall, speakers delivered talks on a range of subjects, including the UCAS application process, and a selection of videos from past Make-up Artistry and Special Effects students and the Manchester Film School were played throughout the event.

Information was also available from LTE Group partners The Manchester College, apprenticeship and functional skills provider Total People, and professional distance learning provider MOL. And delicious UCEN Manchester cupcakes were handed out by Student Union President Oliver Moss.

Formerly part of The Manchester College, UCEN Manchester was launched in January 2018 and delivers higher education courses across the city in partnership with the Manchester Metropolitan University and Sheffield Hallam University.

UCEN Manchester offers expert tutors who are passionate about giving students the knowledge and skills they need to progress and succeed in their chosen career. Its work-focused courses provide access to leading industries, world-class technical environments and like-minded learners.

Michael Walsh, Vice Principal and Dean of Higher Education, said: “The Open Event was fabulous, really vibrant, and we had a steady stream of visitors walk through our doors.

“Many of our expert lecturers were available during the event, and lots of visitors commented on how friendly and approachable they were, which comes as no surprise to me.

“At UCEN Manchester, each student is an individual, not just a number, and it was great to see so many people ready to find their future with us.”
